Mamata Banerjee has proposed Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge as the Opposition’s INDIA bloc’s Prime Ministerial candidate, according to sources. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has also backed the proposal.

This comes after the fourth meeting of the INDIA bloc where opposition leaders discussed various issues, including seat-sharing, joint campaign blueprint and chalking out a strategy to take on the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

The Opposition INDIA bloc’s strength in the Lok Sabha dwindled further on Tuesday as 49 MPs were suspended for unruly behaviour and disregarding the directions of the Chair. This follows the suspension of an unprecedented 78 MPs from both Houses of Parliament a day before.

Suspended MPs include Congress’s Shashi Tharoor, Manish Tewari and Karti Chidambaram, NCP’s Supriya Sule, Samajwadi Party’s Dimple Yadav, NCP’s Farooq Abdullah, DMK’s S Senthilkumar, Aam Aadmi Party’s Sushil Kumar Rinku, and Sudip Bandhopadhyay from the Trinamool Congress. The motion to suspend the MPs was brought by Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal.

India Today TV covered the ground situation in Thoothukudi. As heavy rain triggered flooding in the area, several patients were forced to discharge themselves from Thoothukudi medical college. The patients claimed there was no water, food, or other basic facilities. The video shows parents walking through the flooded streets, carrying newborn in their arms.
