[1939 World Series Game One Yankees vs. Reds



Joe DiMaggio leads the Yankees against the Reds in Game One of the 1939 World Series at Yankee Stadium. Red Ruffing on the mound for the Yanks and Paul Derringer for the Reds. One of the greatest teams in baseball history, the Yankees fielded five Hall of Famers – Bill Dickey, Joe DiMaggio, Lefty Gomez, Joe Gordon, and Red Ruffing, plus Lou Gehrig who did not play in the Series.

Mayor Fiorello La Guardia, former President Herbert Hoover, and Babe Ruth attended the game.
